In the May 2021 meeting of ACIP, the co-administration guidance for COVID-19 vaccines was updated. The CDC now advises routine vaccines to be administered at the same time or shortly before/after the COVID-19 vaccine. The recommendation of a 14 day waiting period has been removed in order to help adolescents and adults stay on track with the CDC recommended vaccine schedule.
This update is good news to physicians as patients return to the office for yearly well checks. Patients on track to receive GSK Shingrix, Merck Gardasil 9, Pfizer Prevnar 13 and any other vaccines can receive these while also receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
